Root Checker: Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-10-30. Developer: Perseid Studio, contact: [email protected].

In short

Root Checker checks your phone on your phone. It has no account, no analytics of its own and no server. What it reads stays on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app. Only the ads (Google AdMob) collect data, as described below.

What the app reads, and where it stays

To show its checks, the app reads what Android reports to an ordinary app: the security patch level and Android version, build properties, settings such as screen lock, encryption, developer options and debugging; which apps hold special access (accessibility, notification access, device admin and similar) or may use the camera, the microphone, the location all the time or SMS; where apps were installed from; and whether an installed app matches a public list of known monitoring apps (by package name and signing certificate). It also creates a temporary key in the phone's keystore to read what the phone's secure hardware reports about the bootloader and verified boot, and deletes that key at once. It requests no device identifier.

All of this is processed on the phone. The app keeps the last results, a short history (counts and which checks needed a look, without app names), the change watch's comparison data and your settings in its private storage. Nothing is uploaded.

Optional online checks

Two checks run only when you tap them: "Check online" downloads Google's public list of revoked attestation keys (android.googleapis.com) and "Download the current list" downloads the public monitoring-app list (github.com). The app sends no data about your phone with these requests; like any web request, the server sees your IP address.

Sharing the report

The report you can share as an image or text is created only when you tap Share and goes only where you send it. It contains no app names, no phone number and no identifiers.

Advertising

The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may collect your device's advertising ID, approximate location derived from the IP address and information about ad interactions to show and measure ads. In the European Economic Area and the UK you are asked for consent first, and you can change it any time in Settings, "Ad privacy choices". See how Google uses information from apps that use its services. There are no ads in the first session.

Purchases

"Remove ads" is bought through Google Play. We never see your payment details; Google Play tells the app only whether the purchase is active.

Permissions

Notifications: only for the change watch and the check reminders, and only if you switch one on. Run at startup: only to keep those working after the phone restarts. App visibility: the app can see apps with a home screen icon, apps that hold notification access or device admin, and only the packages named on the public monitoring-app list; it cannot see every installed app and does not look inside apps. Network: ads, purchases and the optional online checks.

Monitoring-app list (attribution)

The app uses package names and signing-certificate fingerprints from stalkerware-indicators by Echap, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Only those two fields are used; the list was shortened and re-encoded. A match means "matches a known monitoring app", not proof, and an app that is not on the list can still monitor you. If you feel unsafe, get help at stopstalkerware.org.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Root Checker: Datenschutzerklärung

Kurz gesagt
